“Hybrid fitness” is a term that can have many meanings depending on who you ask. Typically though, it refers to a training approach that incorporates elements from various fitness disciplines or modalities providing a more well-rounded and comprehensive fitness experience by integrating these various training methods. The goal is to optimize physical performance, overall health, and specific fitness goals by drawing on the strengths of different exercise modalities.
In a hybrid fitness program, you may be doing any combination of the following:
1. Cardiovascular Training: Incorporating activities like running, cycling, or swimming to improve cardiovascular health and endurance.
2. Strength Training: Utilizing resistance training, weightlifting, or bodyweight exercises to build and maintain muscle strength and tone.
3. Flexibility and Mobility Work: Including stretching, yoga, or mobility exercises to enhance flexibility and joint range of motion.
4. Functional Training: Focusing on exercises that mimic real-life movements to improve overall functional fitness and daily activities.
5. HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training): Introducing short bursts of intense exercise followed by periods of rest or lower-intensity activity to improve cardiovascular fitness and burn calories.
6. Mind-Body Practices: Integrating mindfulness, meditation, or other mental well-being practices to address the holistic aspect of health and fitness.
Hybrid fitness recognizes that a diverse approach can be more effective in achieving a well-balanced, adaptable, and sustainable fitness level (i.e. being a BADASS!). It allows individuals to tailor their workout routines to their specific goals, preferences, and lifestyle, providing a more dynamic and engaging fitness experience.
The thing I love most about Hybrid Fitness is that you are constantly improving, becoming better everyday at one (or more) of the various disciplines you are working on. I look forward to working out now because no two days are the same and I have complete freedom to listen to my body and call an audible if I am feeling sore or tired one day or just feel like I need to work on flexibility, for example.
This type of training is super fun and easy to get started and I am the first to admit, it’s kind of addicting! Hit me up if you have any questions or comments or don’t know where to start.
